Flinders: from Magento 1 to Magento 2 Commerce
In 2013 Youwe built the first Magento 1 store for Flinders, the furniture and home decoration brand, and later moved it to Magento 2 Commerce. "Youwe really understood what we needed," says Serge Barnhoorn, IT Manager of Flinders.
After building the first Magento 1 store for Flinders, Youwe took it to Magento 2.

What Youwe did
Youwe, which built the first Magento 1 version of the Flinders store, moved Flinders to Magento 2 Commerce.
The new store is ready to be connected to the Flinders IT landscape.
How
Flinders chose a Minimum Viable Product based on Youwe’s ready-made Magento 2 theme, so it had a fully working store quickly.
The two teams knew each other, which made real co-creation possible, with consultancy and development on the wishes and goals of Flinders.
One of those wishes was its own URL structure instead of the Magento 2 standard, so the marketing team can make better use of its SEO tools.
Industry standard
"As a retailer, we looked at the industry standard, which was Magento. Magento 1 was already good in our experience, so we knew we had to go with Magento 2." The fact that Magento is now backed by Adobe, was also a big plus, as Flinders knew they could count on a platform that would take them into the future.
Flinders was looking for knowledge and experience in Magento 2, as their team wasn't ready to implement, lacking the Magento 2 knowledge. "Youwe is a partner who has years of experience and has a proven track record in building and migrating to Magento 2."
The process
The two teams already knew each other. "We really valued the collaboration with Youwe," says Serge. "As we knew the people we were working with, it was possible to really co-create this project."
The results
A flexible foundation
One of Flinders wishes was a way to adapt the URL structure, rather than using Magento 2's standard structures. This allows the marketing team to optimize the use of their SEO tools. "It's just a small addition but it makes such a big difference for us." The checkout process has already been optimized, and the store is ready to be connected to Flinders' IT landscape.
An inspiring brand
Flinders stood out for the way it inspired through its brand. Next to its brick-and-mortar stores and online store, it offered in-home style advice that extended the customer experience. The Magento 2 Commerce store was built to support a better online experience. In 2026, Flinders announced that it would continue as Connox, the shared European brand of Flinders and its sister shops.
