Solution

A complex yet highly successful Magento 1 to Magento 2 migration

When the international interior brand, Rivièra Maison, needed to replace its end-of-life Magento 1 (now known as Adobe Commerce) platform, it asked Youwe for help. A wide product catalog, combined with a strong established brand, worldwide points of sale, and an incredibly broad audience demographic, made this a challenging, exciting, and highly technical project.

Established as a flower shop in Amsterdam in 1948, Rivièra Maison has grown into a leading interior design brand with an international presence. Offering a wide range of furniture, homeware, and accessories, the business caters to an extremely broad audience and continues to pursue ambitious growth aspirations.

Rivièra Maison’s business model relies on a solid, reliable platform with an exceptional user experience. As a result, when Magento 1 began to near its end of life, the replacement platform not only needed to be exceptional, but the changeover had to be seamless as well.

After carrying out a technical audit, Youwe proposed a migration to Magento 2 as the best route forward. Yet this would be a complex and complicated integration, with very specific business rules, and the use of some non-compatible modules.

It was a challenging, highly technical project, which needed to be managed to ensure orders could still be placed by customers every single day. It was the ideal project for Youwe to assist with.

Our solution

A platform for achieving online growth ambitions

With such a complex project, a phased, step-by-step approach was required. Key milestones included incorporating Rivièra Maison’s ‘Available to Promise’ (ATP) functionality, as well as building out platform extensions, and creating a configurable products module.

ATP is a business function that balances inventory and planned production with customer orders, to allow a business to keep the minimum amount of a given product within their warehouses. Unlike other functionalities that Rivièra Maison required, ATP was not available within the standard Magento offering. Youwe built extensions, combining them with standard Magento functionalities where possible, to deliver a module that was compatible with the needs of Rivièra Maison’s customer order promising.

The company also wanted to be able to sell configurable products online, yet their product information management system and back-end couldn’t support this. Youwe solved the problem by replicating configurable products functionality within Magento. The workaround proved to be extremely cost-effective, while still providing all the required functionality.

Developing a platform step by step also means a gradual rollout. For this, Youwe devised a minimum viable product (MVP) and minimum loveable product (MLP) strategy. To follow, the shop with the least traffic was successfully released, before finally going fully live across all geographies and products.

The results
