Big Data

The term big data is one that we see more often every day. But what is big data? To really understand what it is, it’s helpful to look at the definition by Gartner. In 2001 Gartner said: Big data is data that contains greater variety arriving in increasing volumes and with ever-higher velocity. And this definition is still relevant today.

So if we explain it a bit easier then big data are larger, more complex data sets, especially from new data sources. These data sets are so voluminous that traditional data processing software just can’t manage them. But these massive volumes of data can be used to address business problems you wouldn’t have been able to tackle before.

Now you are maybe wondering why you should use big data? Big data has a lot of benefits. The most important ones are that big data makes it possible for you to gain more complete answers because you have more information.
When you have more complete answers you have more confidence in the data. This means a completely different approach to tackling problems and solving them the right way.
